Kintbury is a large village and civil parish in central-southern England, located in West Berkshire between the towns of Newbury and Hungerford. Amenities In Kintbury there is a primary school and a CofE parish church [1] both dedicated to St Mary, a post office, a corner shop, and a village butcher. The Roman Catholic youth retreat centre, St Cassian's Centre, is south-west of the village, between Inglewood and Titcomb. There are 3 pubs in the village called the Blue Ball, The Dundas Arms[2] and The Prince Of Wales all of which serve food. Transport Kintbury railway station in the village is served by local services from Reading and Newbury to Great Bedwyn. The Kennet and Avon Canal [3] also runs through the village at Kintbury Lock [4]. Kintbury was named by the Sunday Times in 2007 as in the top ten of England's most sought after villages History Kintbury was spelt Cynetanbyrig in the 10th century and Kenetebury in the 13th century. After Saint Birinus converted the people of Berkshire to Christianity in the mid 7th century, minsters soon became established in the county from which priests were sent out into the countryside.
